Overview
Levls is a subscription fitness app built around HYROX, the competitive fitness race. It gives athletes structured training programmes, benchmarks and a proprietary progress tracking algorithm, whether they're lining up for their first race or chasing a personal best. It's an official HYROX training partner with a growing user base.

The Brief
Levls had the HYROX partnership and a growing user base, but the app didn't yet feel ready for a wider audience. Onboarding dropped users in without enough guidance, the dashboard felt cluttered and the paywall wasn't converting the way it should. It still carried the rough edges of an early MVP. The goal was to improve retention and engagement, and turn more free users into paying subscribers.
Our Solution
We took Levls through a full product experience overhaul, from first open and onboarding through to the dashboard and workout screens, creating a consistent, modern UI across the whole app. We also made the free trial and subscription tiers much clearer, so users know what they're getting and when they'll need to pay.
"Alt Labs were professional, easy to work with, and took the time to understand what we were looking to do with the Levls app and helped us to resolve some key issues we were having with user retention and engagement."

Our Approach
We started with a golden hour (a short, critical first exploration session with the Levls team) to pin down the core issues, starting with conversion. Users didn't realise they'd need a subscription until the 7-day free trial ended, and they weren't sure what each premium tier included. As we dug in, it was clear the problems went beyond those two screens. The app's pieces worked on their own but didn't feel like one cohesive product, so the scope was widened into a full product redesign.
The trial and subscription flow was the fix for the biggest issue. We designed a structured and more transparent onboarding flow that tells users upfront that the trial lasts 7 days, that a subscription follows, and what they get on each tier, so there are no surprises. The onboarding was refined to build confidence early, and the dashboard was reorganised around what an athlete wants to know: what's next, how they're progressing and what they're working towards.
We designed everything as a reusable component library, so new screens and features could be added without starting from scratch or losing consistency, and then developed the new UI for the app. Throughout, we held regular check-ins with the Levls team to share progress and get their feedback, as well as reviewing new user feedback as it came through.

Results
- Full product redesigned end-to-end from onboarding through to the dashboard and workouts.
- Curation of a full design system and reusable component library.
- Optimised paywall and subscription flow, introducing transparency and clarity on what each subscription tier delivers.
